The Petition

To: The NBA Rules and Competition Committee, Chaired by Stu Jackson, and the NBA Board of Governors, Chaired by Mickey Arison

As paying fans, we demand that the NBA Rules and Competition Committee immediately review and address the "flopping" problem in the league.  There is no place in basketball for pretend falls, flails, twists, and dives designed to trick refs into calling fouls.  We are fed up with seeing important games altered by this dishonest and unsportsmanlike practice.

Flopping is in no way a basketball skill. It is intended to deceive officials, and its epidemic use damages the game's credibility.  This is not the WWE -- games should be won by the better basketball team, not the better actors.  Flopping is cheating, plain and simple.  Cheating must not be tolerated in professional sports.

Flopping has become painfully common in recent years and affects nearly every game.  Everybody sees the problem, now it is time to do something about it.  We cannot allow a generation of young players to grow up believing that acting is an acceptable substitute for playing defense.

There are many ways to deal with the problem.  FIBA has successfully enacted a technical foul for flopping, and Commissioner Stern has suggested fines and/or suspensions upon review.  The NBA should lead the international basketball community, not lag behind it. Our message to the committee is: get with the program and FIX THIS!

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
